Contact Lens Tips

I've been wearing contact lenses for over 10 years, and learned a lot of things in those years. In this article, I would like to offer some tips to contact lens users. These tips should be especially helpful to people who are new to using contact lenses. Without further ado, here are my contact lens tips:

1. Do not use generic solution.

The average bottle of contact lens solution costs close to $10. A generic bottle, on the other hand, costs half that amount or less. It can therefore be tempting to buy generic, but don't. I made the mistake of buying generic solution once, and it caused my eyes to get red and irritated. This has never happened when I used a name-brand solution.

Ironically, it was the advice of an optometris that caused me to try a generic bottle in the first place. She had said that they're all the same. But upon trying a generic bottle, I can tell you for a fact that this is not true. So always buy a brand solution like Bausch and Lomb.

2. Do rub and clean your lenses.
Unless you wear daily disposables, you should be removing and storing your lenses every night. But before doing so, you should rub your lenses on each side for about 15 seconds. This removes a lot of the dirt and grime that can accumulate on your lenses. Since I started doing this, I've noticed that my lenses remain very comfortable, even after wearing them for nearly a month. It's a small thing that only takes a few seconds but can make a bit difference in how you feel during the day while wearing your lenses.

3. Don't sleep with your lenses.
Many lenses are designed to allow you to sleep with them on. But you should avoid doing this as much as possible. Everything I've read and heard indicates that this is harmful to your eyes. It's okay if you doze off in your lenses every now and then, but don't get into the habit of leaving your lenses in when you go to bed.

4. Buy your lenses online at stores like
The simple fact is that contact lenses you buy online are cheaper. I like to buy mine at because they have the cheapest prices. Also, there are coupon codes all over the web you can take advantage of to get a really sweet deal. Click here for all current coupons.

5. Change your contact lens case often.
Some people recommend switching your case every 3 months. You can probably use them a bit longer if you boil them to kill the bacteria. But you should still be using a new case every now and then, to make sure it's 100% clean.
